It has a great sound and gets plenty loud for bedroom practice.
Yamaha Thr10x Manual
However, I am fairly new to guitar (learning on my own now for about 6 months) and am really new to amps and their settings. I love how you can download the Thr10 editor from Yamahas website and customize, download, and save presets to the amp. Since I haven't had much experience with an amp, it's hard for me to get some different cool tones that I'd like. I have already looked at website and found some tones I liked, but wanted to ask Reddit! I noticed the Yamaha Thr10 is a very popular amp on here, so was hoping everyone would post a download link to their favorite amp settings, or share a screenshot of the amp settings you like from the editor! I've had the same question before, and I've kept notes of what I've learned from others. Here's a copy-and-paste of my notes: Amp Settings Blues / Hendrix: “Clean” model; gain = 1:00-2:00; master = max; bass/middle/treble = noon; add a little reverb.
For a more modern tone, add chorus (for “clean Megadeth,” e.g.). Rolling Stones/Cheryl Crow: “Crunch” model; gain = 12:00-2:00; master = max; bass/middle/treble = noon; effects = off/min; dly/rev = 10:00; guitar = 10:00 Classic rock (AC/DC, etc.): “Lead” model; gain = max; master = 2:00; bass = 11:00; middle = noon; treble = 3:00; effects = off/min; dly/rev = noon-1:00; guitar = 11:00; humbucker pickups Van Halen / Motley Crue (high gain): “Brit Hi” model; gain = 11:00; master = 2:00; bass/middle = 2:00; treble = 3:00; effects = off/min; dly/rev = 12:30; guitar = 11:00-11:30. Maybe add some chorus or phaser or delay. Metallica/Iron Maiden: “Modern” model. More options: Option 1: “Bass” model; gain = max; master = max; bass = 1:00; middle = 4:30; treble = 9:00; effects =?; dly/rev =?; guitar = “really low” Option 2: “Clean” model; gain = 4:00; master = max; bass = 11:00; middle = 1:00; treble = 7:00; effects =?; dly/rev =?; guitar = b/w 2:00 and 6:00 Option 3: “Bass” model; gain = 1:00; master = max; bass = 3:00; middle = max; treble = max; effects = chorus; dly/rev = some amount of delay and reverb; guitar = low/? Option 4: “Bass” model; gain = 10:00; master = 9:00; bass = 1:00; middle = max; treble = max; effects = tremelo; dly/rev = some amount of delay and “plate” reverb; guitar = low/?
Option 5: “Bass” model; gain = max; master = noon; bass = 2:00; middle = 3:00; treble = 4:00/near max; effects = min/off; dly/rev = min/off; guitar = low/? Option 6: “Crunch” model; gain = 13:00; master = 1:00-1:30; bass = max/near max; middle = 2:00; treble = 1:00; effects = off; dly/rev = slight delay, no reverb; guitar =? First off, great choice on a first amp purchase. I'm picking one up soon to replace my current practice/ modeling amp. As far as tones go, my suggestion as you're starting out is to start simple. For example, set the THR to the Clean setting and take note of the changes in tone based on your guitar's tone and volume knobs as well as the Treble/ Mids/ Bass EQ on the Yamaha. Plus, the Reverb/ Delay and other Effects on the amp itself are the foundations of tone in general.
Apologies if this didn't answer your question but it's advice I wish I had received sooner when I was starting out! Enjoy and play on!
As a very enthused proponent of the Yamaha THR10 series of amps, I have been asked about some of my settings. I tend not to use any of the overdrive models as they are just too gainy for my taste. But I have developed some drive settings that I absolutely love the tone of. I like a cleaner tone and also a mild overdrive tone, with plenty of compression dialed in. You might try these to see how you like them.
So, here are my three favorite settings with the THR10. Note that they all begin with the model selector on the BASS amp setting. You need to use the editor app to access some of these controls. Then save them to the presets on the top of the amp for ready access. With these settings, my guitar's volume and tone pots are usually dimed.
Don't use Gain or Master to control loudness of the speakers. Use the 'Guitar' volume control, on the far right of the amp, to adjust the loudness level of the amp in the room. If you have some particular favorite settings on your THR, please share them in this thread.
I should be sharing some, not sure is settings for THR10C would work for you guys but you can try. I was on the fence on selling the amp, mostly for the issues I have with the eq. For instance, if you go on any setting from 75% to a 100, the change is not a subtle one, I find myself turning the treble at less than 50%, my point is, the eq does not feel natural to me, the sounds can be good but you need to work with it.

The editor keeps me interested in working with it. So, here is were this amp gets really useful for me, I do all my work on Cubase, very easy to use BTW, if you only have one interface as an i/o being the Yamaha, it is even easier. All of my loops are done with EZdrummer, so at the wee hours I can use the headphone out from the Yamaha to monitor everything that is going on Cubase, drums, keys, bass and guitar, this is beyond useful, and for that reason alone I am going to keep it, for now.
